Faire — Scaling the wholesale marketplace

My Role

At Faire, I developed a new kind of horizontally oriented role for Staff+ level designers. I prototyped it through my own work, partnering with design leadership to define what it could look like in practice. It operates at three levels of altitude across the company:

  1. Pillar opportunities — Partnering closely with the head of design and design directors to outline strategic objectives in the user experience, with special focus on areas that don’t fit cleanly into the mandates of other teams.

  2. Group strategy — Once a general area is chosen, working within a specific group to outline the opportunity space, assess the current state, and develop a new strategy in a team-agnostic fashion.

  3. Team partnership — Cherry-picking a team to partner with to prove out hypotheses through light proof of concepts.

As part of shaping this role, I also led and mentored Staff+ designers across the company, helping establish shared expectations and raising the bar for the cohort.

Faire.com

Redesigned Faire.com in 2024, the front page for the company to better represent the brand and tell the company’s story in a compelling, persuasive, and clear way.

Every element of this page was hand crafted to showcase the best of the marketplace in collaboration with content strategy and brand marketing teams.

Mobile App Vision

Ran a set of workshops and brainstorms across the company to develop a 3-year vision for the Faire Retailer app.

The vision also served the purpose of helping Mobile Strike and other pods prioritize projects on their roadmap to help Faire move closer towards the app vision.

Final deliverable included a story-oriented deck and dozens of mid-fidelity vignettes illustrating what the future of app might be.

Kicked off and single-handedly ran a project to assess the current UX of Faire’s global navigation across all platforms, which no single team is responsible for.

Identified major opportunities, created a series of new design concepts, and wrote up a project plan which included almost 10 possible projects which could address the issues retailers face with our navigation.

New Filters

Led design and launched a redesign of Faire’s filters across all platforms.

This involved an analysis of our current filter UX, an extensive competitive analysis, and new designs with detailed level interaction design that resonated well with retailers during user research.

The project saw significant increases in order conversion and engagement by Faire’s retailers.

Shopify Partnership

Played a pivotal role in getting a lucrative partnership deal with Shopify signed.

In just a week, I created near and long term designs on what Shopify x Faire could look like across its POS, admin, and app platforms.

Worked with cross functional peers and senior leadership to iterate, and pushed the team (which included Faire’s founder and CEO) to pursue longer term, inspirational designs that could excite our partners.
